Project Description: 

During my Semester abroad at XJTLU China The brief was set in the province of Shantang jie along the shantang river. A community centre designed to recycle water waste from the polluted river and redistribute clean water to the local community. The Local area has struggled with controlling pollution of the river as shantang jie is a tourist attraction for Suzhou, tours and boat trips regularly pass the heritage site. The project was designed around the concept of the Chinese Waterwheel and how this process of recycling and filtering could not only educate but become a landmark for the river. As the surrounding site features lots of historic bridges, various crossings in-between different zones of the building were a key feature for the design allowing pedestrians and ebike users to pass the river.
